Tencent Binhai Plaza is located in Nanshan District Science and Technology Park, Shenzhen, with a total investment of 1.8 billion yuan, covers an area of 18,650 square meters and a construction area of about 350,000 square meters. It is a headquarters building integrating functions of office, scientific research, conference and commerce, etc. As Tencent's global headquarters base, the project was officially put into use in 2017 and became a new landmark building in Shenzhen. Tencent Binhai Plaza consists of a 248-meter-high South Tower with 50 stories, a 194-meter-high North Tower with 41 stories high, and three connecting layers with shared supporting facilities to connect the two towers. The two towers are interconnected, which symbolizes that the internet will connect all parts of the world and connect about 12,000 employees in Tencent's building in a more efficient way.
As the backbone of international e-commerce and network technology, Tencent expects its new headquarters building to embody Tencent's environmental protection concept, requiring the building to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions by 40% compared with traditional office towers. According to the design principles of passive houses, the energy-saving goal is achieved through the structural orientation, sunshade design, curtain wall insulation design and energy-saving and noise-reduction of HVAC electrical equipment, and finally obtains LEED Gold certification.
The Tencent Binhai Plaza project incorporates green low-carbon elements into its design at the beginning. According to the climatic characteristics of the area, the building follows the principles of building environmental control technology, which makes the building adapt to various climates and adjust to climate changes. The wall is designed according to the sunlight exposure in Shenzhen, making full use of natural light sources to reduce the energy consumption of lighting. The good architectural sunshade design reduces the load of air conditioning in summer from the design of the building body, while providing a comfortable temperature and light environment for the interior. The exterior wall of the building is made of ROCKWOOL’s ThermalRock stone wool board for building, which features fire protection and thermal insulation, improves the comfort of indoor environment and reduces energy consumption.
Fire safety is an essential element of building quality. Tencent attaches great importance to avoiding the possible safety and environmental risks in construction and use of buildings, requiring the fire safety level to reach the first level. ROCKWOOL’s RockSafe fire-resistant stone wool products can withstand temperatures exceeding 1200 degrees Celsius, with a four-hour fire resistance limit. In the case of high temperature, the structure of fibers of ROCKWOOL’s RockSafe products remains stable, which effectively prevents or delays the spread of fire, and provides a high-level fire protection barrier for Tencent Binhai Plaza.
