MEET VOLKER CHRISTMANN: WE LIVE OUR PURPOSE EVERY DAY
Looking after some of the most important markets for ROCKWOOL, as well as serving as the biggest production hub within the Group, Volker Christmann sees his people meet the purpose in variety of ways due to the nature of their works.
“Five big factories mean a lot of employees working on the factory floor where many of them don’t have regular access to a PC or the intranet. So these employees meet the purpose differently than office workers due to the nature of their work.
The circularity of our products and our recycling services are an everyday part of working in our factories. In fact, we started a recycling concept in our German factories already in 2007, so our employees there lived an important part of our purpose before we put words on it!”
Living the purpose every day
“The global journey towards a deeper understanding of sustainability is something that we’ve experienced clearly at ROCKWOOL. Twenty years ago, water wasn’t something we thought we needed to save at our factories. Today, every single factory worker shares our focus on reducing water consumption. And not just that, but also reducing CO2 emissions and ensuring energy efficiency.
For decades, we’ve focused on energy efficiency in our production process – and that is something that our factory workers have embraced, understanding that the best kind of energy reduction is energy that isn’t used in the first place. Saving energy is no longer something that we do to reduce costs, it’s about mitigating climate change and enriching modern living. This brings us back to our purpose once again, and really shows just how relevant it is and how we live it every day.
Our purpose has had a massive, positive impact on our brand reputation, and we’ve won many contracts based on it.”
