Why circularity matters?

In a circular economy, products and material should be used for as long as possible, at their highest value and without losing their quality or performance.

With population growth, pressure on natural resources will only increase. As a result, circularity is a concept with growing support across the world and with significant relevance to the construction and building industries, which are leading consumers of raw materials and producers of waste.

Because our stone wool insulation is so durable, it can last at least 65 years but probably more. But when a building’s lifetime is up, it contains no chemical flame retardants and can be recycled again and again with no loss in mechanical or performance properties.

The construction industry is the world’s largest consumer of raw materials. And together with the demolition sector, they account for almost 40 percent of global CO2 emissions and solid waste streams.

Since our stone wool is endlessly recyclable with no loss in its performance properties, we can take it back from construction, renovation and demolition sites. The service is called Rockcycle® and it is available in 21 countries so far – and we have a goal of reaching a minimum of 30 countries by 2030. We take the stone wool, recycle it back in our production and use it to make new ROCKWOOL products.
