Buildings affect many important aspects of human existence.

We spend roughly 90% of our lives indoors so the quality of the buildings contributes significantly to our health, our wellbeing and our productivity - at work and at home.

All ROCKWOOL stone wool insulation products are manufactured to meet and exceed quality, safety, sustainability and performance standards.

On April 22nd, 2019, ROCKWOOL achieved certification under NAIMA's R-Value program. Demonstrating our ongoing commitment to delivering on quality and performance.

Declare

Declare is a voluntary self-disclosure product labelling program that promotes healthy building materials through product transparency and ingredient disclosure. Headed by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), Declare is linked to the Living Building Challenge (LBC) Red List Imperative.

A Declare product label discloses all product ingredients and added substances to 100 parts per million (ppm). A products compliance to the Red List Imperative are represented by the following Declaration Statuses:

  1. LBC Red List Free, which means that the product is free of all red list ingredients;
  2. LBC Red List Approved, which means that the product meets the imperative requirements with one or more program exceptions and may contain some Red List chemicals;
  3. Declared, which means that the product is not compliant with the Red List or its temporary exceptions.

The LBC Red List, developed by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), designates chemicals that may not be included in materials used in construction that seeks to meet the criteria of the Living Building Challenge (LBC).

ROCKWOOL AFB®evo is LBC Red List Free Declared.

ROCKWOOL exterior products, unfaced and interior products, unfaced are LBC Red List Approved.

Health Product Declarations

Health product declarations (HPDs) are a standardized method of disclosing all ingredients in a material and their associated health risks.

ROCKWOOL HPDs cover unfaced and faced products.

HPDs can be found on the HPD Collaborative database.

GREENGUARD Gold

GREENGUARD Gold Certification is only given to products that are compliant with the certification requirements, which among others, include stringent limits on emissions of more than 360 volatile organic compounds (VOCs). GREENGUARD Gold Certification emission criteria incorporate health-based emissions requirements as denoted among others by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the State of California Department of Public Health’s Section 01350. More than 400 green building codes, standards, guidelines, procurements policies, and rating systems give credit for GREENGUARD Certified products.

Certified ROCKWOOL North America stone wool products are audited regularly by UL Environment in order to maintain GREENGUARD Gold Certification. GREENGUARD Certified products are recognized, referenced and preferred by more than 450 federal purchasers, retailers, green building rating tools and building codes.

UL Environment’s (ULE) Formaldehyde Free Environmental Claim Validation

The ROCKWOOL AFB® evo is manufactured with a non-added formaldehyde binder.

All organic materials will emit small amounts of Formaldehyde – even if you don’t add any. This is also the case for mineral and glass wool insulation and all alternatives containing organic material: cellulose, straw etc.

To support our claim, ROCKWOOL has achieved the UL Environment’s (ULE) Formaldehyde Free Environmental Claim Validation.

For a product or material to be verified as formaldehyde free, product samples must have a measured formaldehyde emission comparable to, or below, typical outdoor air concentrations. This demonstrates that formaldehyde exposure from products labelled as formaldehyde free will not contribute airborne formaldehyde at a level greater than found in the natural outdoor environment.

The manufacturer also maintains a formalized manufacturing quality system and attests that there is

  1. No added formaldehyde,
  2. No known added formaldehyde precursors
  3. No added formaldehyde polymers, and
  4. That no formation of formaldehyde is expected under typical product usage conditions.

Safe Use Instruction Sheets SUIS

The ROCKWOOL Safe Use Instruction Sheet (SUIS) is provided to communicate safe handling and use instructions. The SUIS covers manufactured articles neither regulated by OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1200 nor by the Canada Hazardous Products Regulation SOR/2015-17 (WHMIS 2015).

ROCKWOOL stone wool insulation products are considered as article. “Article” means a manufactured item other than a fluid or particle:

  1. which is formed to a specific shape or design during manufacture;
  2. which has end use function(s) dependent in whole or in part upon its shape or design during end use; and
  3. which under normal conditions of use does not release more than very small quantities, e.g., minute or trace amounts of a hazardous chemical (as determined under paragraph (d) of this section), and does not pose a physical hazard or health risk to employees)
  4. are not regulated by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1200 and are exempt from SDS and label requirements.

Manufacturer's Declaration of Product Compliance with VOC Emissions Testing

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Standard Method for Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers, version 1.2-2017 (CDPH Standard Method v1.2-2017) is widely referenced by green building standards and sustainable materials frameworks to demonstrate compliance with volatile organic compounds (VOC) emissions limits. For example, it meets the requirements of the LEED v4/4.1 EQ credit: Low-Emitting Materials.

Although not designed for interior use, several ROCKWOOL products designed for exterior wall applications have been evaluated and comply with the CDPH Standard Method v1.2- 2017, Section 4, for specified scenarios.
